University to Study Distribution as a Social System
社会システムとしての「流通」を学ぶ大学
UMDS is the only university in the world to offer courses that approach distribution comprehensively and scientifically. Our daily lives heavily depend on distribution, and its importance will grow.
Look at the world from the viewpoint of distribution. People living in countries where distribution is not well-developed suffer from huge inconveniences in their daily lives. On the other hand, even in industrialized countries with well-developed distribution systems, an excessive amount of goods flood the market if there is an imbalance between production and distribution. This results in losses in business and damage to the environment.
Now is the time to reorganize distribution in order to establish a system that can meet the demands of the 21st century. A revolution in distribution makes it possible to achieve a truly affluent society, where we can get what we want, as much as we need, when and where we want it. It is in such a society that we can maintain peace in heart and mind. This is what we have yet to experience.
The mission of UMDS is to educate students to be able to contribute to peace in the world through improvement of people’s lives.
流通科学大学は、「流通を総合的に科学する」ために設立された世界唯一の大学です。
「流通」とは、生活の基盤である社会システムそのものという意味合いを持ち、流通の社会的役割は、今後ますます大きくなっていくと思われます。
流通に焦点を当てて改めて世界情勢を見てみると、流通が未発達の国では国民が生活の不便を強いられ、一方、先進諸国のように流通が発達している国であっても、生産と流通がアンバランスな状態になると、ものが大量に流れ過ぎ、その処理のために環境に悪影響を及ぼしたり、多大な社会的損失が発生したりします。
現代こそ再び流通という機能を見直し、21世紀型流通形態を再構築し（流通革命）、「欲しいものが、欲しい時、欲しい所で、欲しい量、欲しい形で手に入れることができる」モノと心の豊かさを持った「真に豊かな社会」を創り（生活革命）、ひいては世界の人々の生活の質の向上と平和に貢献できる「人材」を育成することが流通科学大学の使命であると考えています。
